It literally means “achievement or accomplishment (gong) relating to qi”, or “mastery of the breath”.
Qigong has several branches, covering hundreds of different styles. In China, we mainly distinguish the following trends: medical (curative) qi gong is the most widespread current, martial qi gong is part of the physical and mental preparation of certain people practicing a martial art and can be similar to Tai Chi, qi gong health and well-being (preventive), spiritual qi gong, practiced for the purposes of spiritual development, emphasizes the inner dimension and the opening of consciousness.
History of Qigong in China:
The roots of Qi Gong go back thousands of years and are inseparable from the Taoist tradition. Working on the breath and internal energy was already practiced by the sages of Antiquity, so there are Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian schools of Qigong, which have greatly influenced the development of traditional Chinese medicine. Most often transmitted in a private and secret manner between masters and initiates, the practice of Qigong experienced growing popularity in the 20th century, both within the Chinese population and outside China, notably thanks to contacts Western societies which have become increasingly interested in it since the 1960s.
Shendao, the path to self-awareness
The institute was born following years of practice and research by B. SAUTAREL, in the field of martial arts, both external and internal. The concept of Vital Energy underlies all techniques and approaches that rely on living things, regardless of the cultures from which they come. The practice revolves around a particular gesture mainly from Chinese tradition, but perhaps adapted to all objectives using the physical body as a vector of expression. The fundamental aspect on which we act when practicing Shendao is the transformation of our inner state. Precise teaching and practice carried out in an inner attitude of attention and vigilance lead us to develop new capacities, to increase vigilance over the body, to open up to new organic, tissue and energetic sensations, and to densify our bodies. We discover that, through the physical body, the different aspects of our being are linked together again, allowing us to function as a harmonious "whole".
